An electronic component is a basic electronic device or physical entity that is part of an electronic system used to affect electrons or their associated fields. Electronic components are industrial products available in a singular form and are not to be confused with electrical elements, which are conceptual abstractions representing idealized electronic components and elements.

Classification of Electronic Components

Electronic components can be classified into three main categories:

Active Components: These components rely on a source of energy and can inject power into a circuit. Examples include transistors, diodes, and integrated circuits (ICs). Active components are used to amplify or control electrical signals.

Passive Components: These components cannot introduce net energy into the circuit and cannot rely on a source of power. Examples include resistors, capacitors, inductors, and transformers. Passive components are used to dissipate, resist, or store energy.

Electromechanical Components: These components use moving parts or electrical connections to perform electrical operations.

Examples of Electronic Components

Some common electronic components include:

Resistors: Resistors are used to control the flow of electric current by providing resistance. They are graded based on their power ratings and resistance values.

Capacitors: Capacitors store electrical energy and are used to filter signals, smooth voltage fluctuations, and store charge.

Inductors: Inductors store energy in a magnetic field and are used to filter signals, regulate voltage, and store energy.

Transformers: Transformers are used to raise or lower voltage levels while maintaining power and energy.

Diodes: Diodes allow current to flow in one direction only and are used for rectification, voltage regulation, and signal demodulation.

Transistors: Transistors act as amplifiers or switches in electronic circuits and are used to amplify weak signals, control larger currents, and perform logical operations.

Integrated Circuits (ICs): ICs are microelectronic computer circuits incorporated into a chip or semiconductor and are used to perform complex functions
